Used equipment auction prices level off after two years of decline
Third-quarter results suggest the used market has found a floor, with late-model excavators and loaders holding value best.

After falling steadily since late 2024, used heavy equipment prices at auction held roughly flat in the third quarter, according to sale results from major auction houses reviewed by News Equipment.
The steadiest categories were late-model crawler excavators and wheel loaders with low hours, which sold within a few percent of spring prices. Older machines and highway trucks continued to soften, as buyers became more selective about condition and emissions tier.
What's behind the floor
Long lead times on new machines are keeping buyers in the used market, and the wave of rental fleet disposals that flooded auctions last year has slowed. Export demand for mid-life machines has also picked up.
“The panic selling is over. Good iron with a service history is getting good money again.”
Dealers caution that a flat quarter is not a rebound, and that higher interest rates are still limiting what many buyers can finance.
