FARMINGTON, Mo. - Farmington Heavy Equipment, which lists its address as 6 St Francois Ave, Farmington, MO 63640, is a scam. A buyer who wired $15,800 to purchase a 2014 COTTRELL C5309 says the trailer never arrived, according to the buyer's account.
The listing presents a late model Cottrell carrier described as recently serviced and ready for work, making the lack of delivery notable for equipment buyers weighing full payments for single units.
The listing
The ad offers a 2014 COTTRELL C5309 open car carrier trailer, described at 53 feet long and 102 inches wide with tandem axles, air-ride suspension and an aluminum floor. The seller's published specification lists aluminum wheels and chain or strap loading capability and highlights maintenance: four new air bags, four new shocks, new slack adjusters, new drums and shoes, a full axle service with bearings replaced on all four ends, and tires said to have more than 80 percent tread remaining. An automatic tire inflation system is included.
The listing asks $15,800. The page frames the trailer as "well suited for vehicle transportation," and the combination of recent service claims and the trailer's configuration appears to have been the attraction for the buyer who paid in full.
How the sale unfolded
According to the buyer's account, the buyer encountered the Farmington Heavy Equipment listing while searching for an open car carrier and compared it with other offers. The trailer's service history and the advertised features made it stand out against similar units, the buyer's account says.
The buyer then contacted the seller through the website's advertised channels and reached an agreement to buy the trailer at the posted price. According to the buyer's account, the transaction proceeded with a single payment for the asking price. The buyer sent $15,800 by bank wire because the selling price matched what had been agreed.
After sending the funds, the buyer waited for arrangements to transfer the trailer or for confirmation that pickup and delivery were scheduled. According to the buyer's account, no trailer ever arrived and no equipment was received.
The buyer's account shows a completed wire of $15,800 and no subsequent delivery of the 2014 COTTRELL C5309. The buyer reports the full amount was sent and that the trailer was never provided.
What the website shows
Farmington Heavy Equipment's website presents itself as a used equipment dealer, listing the Farmington address above and a contact telephone number, +1 636-204-5228. The inventory page used by the buyer displays photographs and the detailed service claims quoted above along with the price.
Registration records show the farmingtonheavyequipment.com domain was created Sept. 28, 2026 with HOSTINGER operations, UAB as the registrar. The registration is new relative to the listing and the site does not publish dealer licensing or Department of Transportation numbers on its pages.
How these schemes work
Federal consumer agencies advise that fraud operations often highlight well-serviced late-model units at prices that prompt immediate payment, and that brand-new domain registrations are a common indicator of risky offers. Sites set up quickly can present convincing descriptions and maintenance histories but still lack verifiable dealer credentials or a physical presence that buyers can confirm.
The farmingtonheavyequipment.com posting matches several of those red flags: a recent-service narrative and an attractive price on a single trailer, combined with a domain record dated days before this report. Those elements can make it difficult for buyers to confirm the machine in person before sending funds.
