TANGENT, Ore. - Oregon Equipment Sales Tangent, which lists its address as 33599 OR-99E, Tangent, OR, OR 97389, US, is a scam. A buyer reported wiring $9,900 to purchase the advertised 2020 Bobcat T770 tracked skid steer loader and never receiving the machine.

The listing held obvious appeal to a buyer hunting a late model, low-hour unit. The ad described the 2020 Bobcat T770 as "Clean, well-maintained" with only 886 hours, an enclosed cab with heat and A/C, a 3.4L turbocharged diesel, 92 HP, hydrostatic 2-speed travel, high-flow hydraulics and a tracked undercarriage. The asking price was $9,900.

The listing

The seller's published description lists the machine as a 2020 Bobcat T770 tracked skid steer loader with 886 hours and about 10,515 pounds in operating weight. The text highlights a 3.4L Bobcat 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine rated at 92 HP, hydrostatic transmission with two travel speeds, high-flow and standard auxiliary hydraulics, an enclosed operator cab with heat and air conditioning, hand controls and a pattern changer.

Attachments and extras are included in the published copy: an 80-inch bucket with bolt-on teeth, a hydraulic quick coupler and rubber tracks. The ad asserts recent service and says the tracked undercarriage is in good working condition, positioning the unit for construction, land clearing, material handling and heavy landscaping work at the $9,900 asking price.

How the sale unfolded

A buyer told News Equipment they found the T770 listing while shopping for a tracked skid steer. The buyer compared it with other machines in the same class and considered the low hours and the combination of high-flow hydraulics and a cab attractive for their needs.

The buyer began a transaction through the site and agreed to pay the full listed price. Relying on the listing language and the seller's published contact details, the buyer wired $9,900 to complete the purchase, according to the buyer's account.

After the payment was sent the buyer waited for the machine to be delivered or for instructions to inspect and take possession. No machine arrived. The buyer continued to monitor the listing and the seller's contact points and found no machine change that resulted in delivery.

As the situation unfolded the buyer concluded the unit would not be provided. The outcome logged by the buyer was a $9,900 wire with no equipment received.

How these schemes work

Federal consumer protection guidance warns buyers that listings for late-model, low-hour machines priced well below market can be used to lure full payments before a buyer can inspect a machine in person. Scams often involve newly registered domains and limited verifiable credentials for the seller.

Those general signs match the facts around this Bobcat listing: the domain is days old, the ad emphasizes recent service and low hours, and a buyer sent full payment before the machine was made available for possession.
